Author Profile
Dr. Jonathan M. Jackson, Sr. — known to many readers by his fiction pen name Alexius Rex — is an American author, legal professional, and historian whose work is anchored in primary-source historical research and creative historical fiction. He earned his Juris Doctor in 1980 and practiced law for decades while pursuing a lifelong interest in historical research and writing, reserving his real name for his formal histories and expanded non-fiction editions. His focus on the American Civil War is driven by his own family genealogy: he is a direct descendant of soldiers who fought in the conflict, most notably Lt. Roland Jackson, whose wartime accounts formed the foundation of his signature book, I Rode with Morgan. He speaks regularly with Civil War interest groups, including the Civil War Round Table Congress and the Addressing Gettysburg podcast.
The 20th Anniversary Edition — a 499-page immersive account tracking the front-line experiences of Lt. Roland Jackson and Lt. Mitchell L. Stewart II under General John Hunt Morgan, drawn from primary-source wartime memoirs and family genealogy.
